Prior to our visit to Venice, we were warned by many that it would be swarming with tourists and that there wasn’t much to see and do. While there definitely were areas of the city that were more crowded than others, we absolutely fell in love with Venice and found many quaint, peaceful, and charming parts of the city without a tourist in sight (besides ourselves of course 🙂 You can get lost in the winding streets, all while feeling like you’re walking through an Italian painting. If you are traveling through northern Italy, it would be a shame to miss out on visiting this unique and beautiful city. I have tips below for helping you plan your next trip to Venice!

WHERE TO STAY:

We chose to stay at Hotel Albergo Marin. It’s nothing fancy or glamorous, but was extremely affordable and located in a quiet area away from the crowds. If you are looking for something simple and in a good location, this place will have everything you need.

WHAT TO DO AND SEE:

1. Stroll the streets and take in the charming views (Piazzo San Marco is the busiest area, but still something you should visit while there).

2.  Take a Gondola Boat Tour (yes, it’s a touristy thing to do, and also expensive- but when in Venice…)

3. Take the ferry for a day trip to the nearby islands of Burano or Murano – (This is definitely something you want to take the time to do- these towns were very unique, full of color, and not as crowded as Venice).

WHERE TO EAT:

1. All’arco (family owned, very small)

2. Paradisco Perduto

3. Al Covo

4. Alle Corone

5. Ai Mercanti

WHERE TO DRINK:

1. La Cantina

2. Alla Vedova

3. Vino Vero
